Linda Ty-Casper: "A hundred years from now, nothing in history textbooks will mention these events, as nothing much is said about the Philippine-American War that destroyed the First Republic in Asia. History's Memory? It can be politicized, self-serving memory. We have to turn to literature for information about bully nations who claim to lead the world towards peace and democracy, but in truth is expanding its interests."
