Kinaray-a

The birds
on the landing of your tongue

have been sighted in other
countries. They make sharp

cries but are very delicate.
They come in on slender legs and bright,

tufted wings the color of water
and island hieroglyphs,

summoning memory—which they name
handurawan.

for Alice and John
