Four
By Olivia "Bette" Mejia
1944-1994

Beware the seed
That would escape infinity
Just to be born
Under a sun that kills
After a million leaves
Have sprung and withered.

The sun and time together
End their task
And burn the seed
That dared to enter their domain
In the guise of a deathless tree
