shoppers of paradise
by Camilo Antonio

The shops call
with trappings
of Christmas refrain
to people
unburdened
by giving again

Unwearied
untrampled
they face year end's test,
with long lists
short options
they target
the best

Shoppers of Paradise
lovers at heart
Lovers in Paradise
shoppers at heart

Told story
old music
bring new marvels still;
stressed rhythm
sweet panic
big plastic bags fill

Commercials
confuse all
the children who cry
and parents
are lured till
their pockets run dry

The dinner
the parties
the unusual bouts
will jingle away
many lingering
doubts

Aggressors
and warriors
keep some sort of truce,
non-lovers and cynics
have some good excuse

Lovers of Paradise
shoppers at heart
Shoppers in Paradise
lovers at heart

Some people
will scrape what
they have and they can,
some others
must beg and
pretend it is fun

And I am
a shopper
of words that I weave
to celebrate
lovers who give
and believe
