of kings and fools
by Fernando Ayala

here I am at the cusp
of kings and fools
staring agape
at grand designs and tools
used by countless souls
to snare their dreams
flowing in streams
from the chaos of life

i pore,
i grasp,
i test,
but none of them
can catch these
simple dreams of mine.

so here i weep
in the clutch of kings and fools
screaming in the dark
amidst these callow boors
chafing at these roles
with paths to false dreams
flowing in streams
from the chaos of life

a simple house by the sea
to shelter me
and a family to weave
a melody of tranquility
by the sun,
by the moon,
by the stars,
by the forces
that be,
i pray that these be granted me.
